Explore the history of St. George Musical Theater, a community institution that began as Mark Ogden’s visionary project, grew under Don and Dawna Kenworthy’s leadership, and evolved from SGMT into today’s reimagined theatre, honoring its past while building a vibrant future for the arts in Southern Utah.

Decades of Community Entertainment
- SGMT has overcome incredible odds and risen to every challenge before it.
- Playwright Mark Ogden imagined a community theater group organization where his original music and scripts could come to life.
- Dawna and Don Kenworthy joined Mark to produce incredible shows in a variety of venues.
- Mark passed away in 1994, but the Kenworthy’s, along with a troupe of passionate followers, created and produced eight shows annually with more than 50,000 guests attending each year.
- SGMT lost its downtown venue and was forced to close operations.
- After five long years, the City of St. George invited theater back to the historic Opera House with Bruce Bennett as executive director.
- After years of sold-out performances and generous patrons, the dream of our own home is nearing reality.
- Our generous community has donated over $17,000,000 for the new facility at 950 S. Main Street and we only need $2,500,000 to complete the project. If you would like to participate, please call (435) 628-8755.
