A modern retelling of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” “West Side Story” is set in 1950s New York City. It revolves around the forbidden love between Tony, a former member of the Jets gang, and Maria, the sister of the rival Sharks gang leader. The musical explores themes of love, prejudice, and gang violence through Jerome Robbins’ iconic choreography and Leonard Bernstein’s memorable score.
